Vaniqa: Efficacy in the treatment of facial hirsutism in women

Vaniqa slows the growth of facial hair (Schrode 2000b) with the majority of patients seeing results within 4 months (Wolf 2007). While 70% of women using Vaniqa show improvement in facial hirsutism at 6 months, (Schrode 2000a) 81% of women using Vaniqa show clinical improvement in facial hirsutism after 1 year (Schrode 2000b).

Vaniqa has been proven to produce a significant reduction in hair density, mean hair length and cumulative hair length. It also slows the growth of hair (Hoffman 2008). Vaniqa is equally effective with all skin types and hair colours, including dark, coarse hair and light, vellus hair (Shapiro 2005, Smith 2006, Callender 2005).

Vaniqa combination therapy: Enhancing the efficacy of laser therapy

Vaniqa and laser treatment have complementary mechanisms of action (i.e. Vaniqa does not affect hair diameter and, as such, does not decrease the efficacy of simultaneous or subsequent laser therapy). This appears to have a synergistic effect which leads to faster and better end results (Hamzavi 2007). In combination with laser treatment, Vaniqa significantly reduced hair count (Hamzavi 2007). Studies show that the addition of Vaniqa to monthly laser treatment resulted in a significantly more rapid and nearly complete reduction of facial hair in women after 6 months (Hamzavi 2007).

Just as important, Vaniqa significantly reduces the psychological burden of unwanted facial hair (Jackson 2007). Decrease in all ESTEEM dimensions was more than twofold greater vs. baseline in Vaniqa-treated women
